Hungarian Wages Climb 8.5% in March, Real Earnings Rise 3.5% – Budapest Business Journal

The average gross monthly earnings of full-time employees in Hungary reached HUF 714,400 in March 2025, marking an 8.5% increase year-on-year, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Net earnings stood at HUF 490,400, rising by 8.4% year-on-year.

Adjusted for inflation, real earnings rose by 3.5% as consumer prices were up by 4.7% over the same period.

Regular average gross earnings—excluding bonuses and one-off payments—were estimated at HUF 648,700, up 8.4% from March 2024. In a breakdown by sector, regular gross wages stood at HUF 645,800 in the business sector (up 8.0%), HUF 647,000 in the public sector (up 9.1%), and HUF 681,400 in the non-profit sector (up 9.9%).

Median gross earnings were HUF 550,000 in March, while median net earnings reached HUF 381,700, increasing by 8.6% and 8.3% respectively, compared to the previous year.

Over the first quarter of 2025, average gross earnings amounted to HUF 680,400 and average net earnings to HUF 467,600, reflecting annual growth rates of 9.2% and 9.1%, respectively.
