Average Gross Earnings Climb to HUF 789,200 in December – Budapest Business Journal

Average gross monthly earnings for full-time employees reached HUF 789,200 in Dec. 2025, marking an 8.5% increase compared with the same month a year earlier, according to a report by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Net average earnings stood at HUF 548,900, up 9.8% year-on-year.

The stronger rise in net pay compared with gross wages was largely due to tax changes, including a higher family tax allowance introduced on July 1, 2025, and a new tax allowance for mothers raising three children that took effect on Oct. 1, 2025.

Regular average gross earnings, which exclude premiums and one-off bonuses, totaled HUF 683,400 in December, representing a 9.4% increase from a year earlier.

By sector, regular average gross earnings came to HUF 680,900 in the business sector, HUF 672,800 in the budgetary sector and HUF 734,000 in the non-profit sector. Year-on-year growth reached 9.7% in the business sector, 9.2% in the budgetary sector and 6.9% in the non-profit sector.

Real earnings rose 6.3% in December, reflecting wage growth alongside a 3.3% increase in consumer prices compared with the same period in 2024.

Median gross earnings reached HUF 607,700, up 9.4% from a year earlier, while median net earnings amounted to HUF 427,500, representing a 10.8% annual increase.

For the full year, average gross earnings for full-time employees amounted to HUF 705,000 between January and December 2025, while average net earnings reached HUF 486,800.

On an annual basis, average gross earnings increased by 9.0% and net earnings grew by 9.4% compared with the same period in 2024.
